Caring for Silk

Can I wash silk in the washing machine?

We recommend you handwash MYRN Silk products for best results. However, as long as you use a protective laundry bag, silk detergent, a delicate cycle, and water no hotter than 30°C, you can machine wash.

Why do I need to wash silk in a protective bag?

Machine washing silk with other items can cause it to catch on zips or rub against the machine's hard interior, potentially damaging the fabric. Using a protective laundry bag (or placing silk inside an old pillowcase) helps shield it from friction, keeping your silk smooth and soft for longer.

Can you tumble dry silk?

No. The heat and movement can shrink and damage silk fibres. Always air dry flat, avoiding sunlight.

Can you use normal detergent on silk?

Always use a specialist silk detergent. Regular detergents contain enzymes and chemicals that can weaken silk fibres. Many silk detergents are suitable to wash with other delicate fabrics such as wool.

How often should I wash my silk pillowcase?

Every 1-2 weeks is ideal. Oil, skincare products and natural sweat can build up, so regular gentle washing keeps silk feeling fresh and smooth.

Does silk crease?

Silk does crease, especially when machine washed. I find handwashing and smoothing out the wrinkles avoid the need to iron. If you need to iron, turn your pillowcase inside out and use the lowest heat setting.

Can I iron silk?

Yes you can iron silk. Turn your pillowcase inside out and use the lowest setting on your iron. Ensure you use a clean iron and ironing board to prevent marking your delicate silk. Avoid the steam setting to prevent water marks.

How long does silk last?

With proper care, high-quality silk can last for years while maintaining its shine and softness.
